Moscow: The south Russian city of Novorossiysk has temporarily swapped Soviet-era street names for more festive titles, after the mayor’s office decided to cheer up residents ahead of the holidays.
The city’s Engels Street is to be renamed Snegovik (Snowman) Street, while Lenin Street will be renamed Father Christmas Street, and Soviet Street will be renamed Festive Lights Street.
The mayor’s office has also proposed renaming Novorossiysk Republic Street as Present Street, while the Myskhakskoye Highway will become a whiter Snezhinka (Snowflake) Street.
Novorossiysk officials said the measure is temporary and the renamed streets will return to their original names once the New Year celebrations, Russia’s main national holiday, are over.
