Jammu and Kashmir delegation taps business openings in US

Washington: A business delegation from Jammu & Kashmir organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is in the United States to explore commercial opportunities for collaboration and to learn from international best practices.

Led by Waseem Trumboo, chairman of CII Jammu & Kashmir State Council and executive director of Trumboo Industries Pvt. Ltd., the delegation comprises of young business leaders who own or operate small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) across a wide spectrum of industries.

While many companies have diversified interests, the major thrust areas of the delegation are hydroelectric power generation infrastructure, tourism management and food processing, according to a CII media release.

The delegation plans to visit Washington DC, New York, California and Colorado Dec 10-17.

“This is the first ever business delegation we are bringing from Jammu and Kashmir. Young entrepreneurs in the state are ready to look out for promoting international trade, expansions, partnerships and learn from various technological advancements that exist globally,” Trumboo said.

“The idea is to promote growth of our local economy and this step will go long way in that direction. This also speaks volumes about how drastically the entrepreneurial spirit as well as the industrial environment is changing in the state,” he said.

In Washington, the delegates will meet officials at the US Department of Commerce and US EXIM Bank to get an overview of the economic and investment climate in the US and specifically focus on opportunities for SMEs.

In California, the delegates will meet the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and explore logistics involved in hydro power in Los Angeles area dams.

In Colorado, the delegation will hold meetings and visit sites in Denver and Aspen to learn about the infrastructure developed for tourism.
