South African government websites hacked

By IANS,

Cape Town : Hackers have attacked several websites of the South African government in the past few days, a media report said Tuesday.

An investigation by the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) found that three government websites were defaced last week, Xinhua reported.

In a swift response, the SITA immediately restored the three websites and is now assisting all government departments to prevent such incidents in future.

An official said the websites “were not hacked but defaced”, and “only the front-face or cosmetic parts were altered” but no government information was under threat.

“Sensitive and confidential information was not found on government websites nor was it accessible through the websites,” the official said.
