New Delhi: Mohammad Amin, a former vice chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia and who taught history at St. Stephens College for over four decades, died Saturday, a university official said. He was 86.
He is survived by his wife Khursheed Amin, son Shahid Amin and daughter Ghazala Amin.
Amin was a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third highest civilian award. His last rites will be performed Sunday.
Journalist Barkha Dutt tweeted: “Sad to hear that Amin Saheb, eminent historian and great St Stephens College institution, passed away today.”
Former chief election commissioner S.Y. Quraishi tweeted: “Sad to announce that our dearest teacher Prof Amin is no more. For 4 decades he was the alter ego of St Stephen’s college. Praying for him.”
