Islamabad : Pakistan Tuesday paid tribute to Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of the country, on his 136th birth anniversary.
State-run PTV and Radio Pakistan aired special programmes on Jinnah, also known as Quaid-e-Azam, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
Born in Karachi in 1876, Jinnah became a barrister in England in 1896. After Pakistan’s creation in 1947, Jinnah became the country’s first governor general until his death Sep 11, 1948.
Jinnah always dreamed of Pakistan becoming a democratic and welfare state where every citizen enjoyed equal opportunities.
Tuesday began with special prayers at the Mazar-e-Quaid, the mausoleum of the leader in Karachi.
Newspapers brought out special supplements that spoke about Jinnah’s struggles for a homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent during the freedom movement.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf have called on the people to follow the principles of the founder leader.
