The Tribune bags award for excellence in journalism

New Delhi : English daily The Tribune has received the IPI India award for excellence in journalism for “outstanding journalistic work done in 2011”, it was announced here Friday.

“The exclusive report on the loot of Punjab’s public transport by politicians and bureaucrats by Prabhjot Singh was selected for the award,” The International Press Institute (IPI) India said in a statement.

“The award comprises of a cash prize of Rs. two lakh, a trophy and a citation,” it added.

The jury commended the investigation, which was published in five parts, terming it an example of “crusading journalism in the cause of larger public interest”.

The award will be presented at a function here in February 2013.

IPI India had instituted the annual award in 2003 to recognise and honour work done by an Indian media organisation or journalist in public interest, including safeguarding the freedom of the press and other freedoms such as human rights.
