Shillong: The All India Christian Council Monday asked the central government to institute a national registry for all sexual offenders and set up fast-track courts to deal with crimes against women.
“Sexual offenders have a pattern and history and turn out to be habitual. The government should institute a registry for such sexual offenders and to immediately act on complaints filed by victims,” a spokesperson for the council said.
Condemning the Delhi gang-rape, the council said that the Christian community hangs its head in grief and shame as India loses yet another girl to sexual violence.
“The United Nations has said that India is one of the most unsafe countries in the world for women and girls. There is not a single day in India sexual crimes against women are not reported. Rapes of Dalit and tribal women is common. Rape of girls within extended families is widely reported. Those who prey on minor girls roam free in the land,” the spokesperson said..
