Islamabad : Stating that tax collection had increased, Pakistan Finance Minister Hafeez Shaikh says that Rs.972 billion had been collected as taxes in the past seven months.

Shaikh told the National Assembly Thursday that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) collected Rs.972 billion as tax during the last seven months; this was 26 percent more as compared to the previous year.

The tax collection has been increased due to prudent measures and introduction of reforms in the tax collection system, Associated Press of Pakistan quoted the minister as saying.

The revenue board collected Rs.1,558 billion during the last financial year as tax which was 17 percent more as compared to the corresponding period of the year 2009-10.

It has been decided that the filing of income tax returns would be made mandatory for all National Tax Number (NTN) holders from the new financial year, he said.
