Beijing : In a bid to provide food and clothing for people in extremely cold regions, the Chinese government has distributed over 6 billion yuans (over $950 million) as winter relief funds.
On Tuesday, the government distributed over 1.20 billion yuan (about $200 million) as winter relief funds for weather-stricken areas, Xinhua quoted the Ministry of Civil Affairs as saying in a statement.
The statement said with over 5 billion yuan distributed last December, the total amount of the distributed winter relief funds has crossed over 6 billion yuan.
The ministry has also directed concerned provinces to properly handle disaster relief work following snowstorms and freezing weather, the statement said.
The funds were arranged by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the Ministry of Finance to help people in extremely cold regions.
