Three Goa ministers’ kin among Congress nominees

By IANS,

Panaji : Family members of three Goa ministers figured in a list of seven candidates released by the Congress party Tuesday for the March 3 state assembly elections.

The list, the party’s second so far, included Education Minister Atanasio Monserrate’s wife Jennifer from Taleigao constituency, Public Works Department Minister Churchill Alemao’s daughter Valanka from Benaulim, and Home minister Ravi Naik’s son Ritesh from Marcaim.

Former transport minister Pandurang Madkaikar would be the party’s candidate from Cumbharjua and his brother Dhaku Madkaikar would contest from Priol.

Uday Palyekar was given the party ticket to contest from Siolim and Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco from Curtorim.

Adding to the first list of 22 candidates released by the Congress last week, the fresh batch of seven nominees takes to 29 the number of tickets issued by the party for the 40-member Goa legislative assembly elections.

The Congress has allotted seven seats to its alliance partner Nationalist Congress Party and is expected to announce the names of candidates for the remaining four constituencies soon.
