On day of love, warring leaders in battleground UP

By IANS,

Lucknow : They may not see eye to eye and don’t tire of condemning each other. But what a coincidence that sworn political rivals converged in Uttar Pradesh to tread the same ground Valentine’s Day Tuesday.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi was in her constituency Rae Bareli along with daughter Priyanka ahead of elections there Feb 19. This is the first time in this campaign that the two would be campaigning together in Rae Bareli.

But also there were archrival, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari and his predecessor Rajnath Singh. And so was Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav, addressing addressing rallies in the high profile constituency on this day of love and amity.

Sonia’s son Rahul, also Congress general secretary, was in neighbouring Hardoi before moving on to Agra to address more rallies there.

SP supremo Mulayam Singh, who flew out of Lucknow in the morning, was busy travelling to Farrukhabad, Kannauj and Hardoi.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati flew to Banda from where she will also go over to Fatehpur to address public rallies.
