ECI’s action against Khurshid unwarranted: PFI

By TCN News,

Bhopal: Mr. K. M. Shareef, General Secretary of Popular Front of India, (PFI), has stated that the decision of the Chief Election Commissioner of India, (ECI), to seek the “immediate and decisive” intervention of the President after charging the Union Law Minister Mr. Salman Khurshid with “improper and unlawful” defiance of ECI orders is unwanted and unfair. The culture of pronouncing promises during elections is not new and all political parties widely practice this trend.

Shareef in a Press release said that about giving reservation to Muslims, Mr. Salman Kurshid was only following the path of other leaders and different political parties and it cannot be termed as improper and unlawful. While the ECI was very vigilant in monitoring the election statements regarding reservation to Minorities, it could not be understood why the ECI is ignoring statements by BJP and its leaders including Mr. L.K. Advani about re-building Ramjanmbhoomi Temple at Ayodhya, which is indeed a communal statement aimed at polarizing the society at the time of elections. He urged the Election Commission to take a fair stand when dealing with issues, speeches and statements related to the elections.

Shareef has sought the intervention of President of India for the removal of Narendra Modi from the post of Chief Minister and his prosecution in the light of Gujarat High Court decision that held Modi Government of Gujarat responsible for its failure in protecting the religious places during 2002 riots. He welcomed the court orders which directed the Gujarat government to either repair or reconstruct and pay compensation and also made the principal judges of 26 districts responsible for the implementation of orders.
