Chandigarh : A Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officer was arrested by the state vigilance bureau Wednesday for his involvement in a case of corruption registered against him in 2010.
The 2003-batch HCS officer, Satbir Singh Jangu, was arrested by the vigilance team in a case registered against him in August 2010 when he was posted as sub divisional magistrate (SDM) at Mahendragarh.
“A complaint was received by Vigilance Bureau from Pardeep, a resident of district Bhiwani who stated that he was being harassed to pay bribe for plying his dumper truck from Rajasthan to Haryana.”
“The vehicle was stopped time and again by Dharamvir, reader to the SDM who used to collect bribe money from drivers of vehicles and issue challan if the money was not paid. The reader was using SDM’s official vehicle and blank challan book signed by SDM. The complainant was asked to give Rs. 7,000 and pay the amount to Raj Kumar at Kisan dharma kanta (weighing station),” a vigilance spokesman said here Wednesday.
Taking action on this complaint, a vigilance bureau team accompanied by the Narnaul city magistrate had laid a trap and arrested Raj Kumar “red handed” while accepting the bribe, the spokesman said.
“During investigation, Raj Kumar admitted of being conduit for receipt of money on behalf of the reader. Later Dharamvir surrendered in court and admitted during questioning that he used to pass on the entire ill-gotten money to the SDM. The latter used to give a part of such money to him (reader) for his efforts,” he added.
The HCS officer had also approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court for anticipatory bail. However, his petition was dismissed by the high court.
