Sydney : Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive James Sutherland admitted that it needs to improve communication between national selectors and the public to avoid situations like a public outcry that took place over Brad Haddin’s omission from the ODI squad.
It took 19 days for Cricket Australia to confirm that Haddin was dropped from the ODI squad and not rested for the tri-series.
“We’re not comfortable with the level of uncertainty and public discussion on this particular matter. The really important thing though for us, and the real focus in recent times for the national players, has been to the players, and perhaps that area of improving that for the public’s benefit just needs to be touched upon as well,” Sutherland was quoted as saying by The Age.
“If there are things that need to be made clearer in the public place and they’re not, then they’re things we need to improve. We owe that to cricket fans and the country. Personally, I think we can do better and (if) we need to do better in that regard then we will.
“Looking back on it, something clearly has gone awry there and that’s something we need to be clearer on,” he said.
Sutherland also said that Ryan Harris was not rested in Sydney, despite the Queensland paceman’s assertions earlier this week that he was not injured.
“Ryan Harris is out of the side because he’s not fit to perform and I’m not privy to the exact conversations that have been had, but there’s obviously a combination of things there, as John Inverarity has talked about, but I don’t think it’s right to say that he’s just simply rested, because that’s just not true,” Sutherland said.
