Although Banerjee was invited, she didn’t turn up at the inauguration of the National Security Guard (NSG) hub at Badu, 12 km from the city airport in neighbouring North 24 Parganas district.

She deputed Trinamool Congress general secretary and central minister Mukul Roy and West Bengal Food Minister Jyotipriyo Mullick to attend the programme.

On Friday, Banerjee joined her counterparts from Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Bihar in strongly opposing the just approved anti-terror hub, a brainchild of Chidambaram.

Banerjee, J. Jayalalithaa, Naveen Patnaik and Nitish Kumar expressed concern over the powers given to the NCTC, saying it would infringe on the federal structure and the rights of state governments.

Earlier too, Banerjee had chosen to stay away from central government programmes when she disagreed with central government policies.
