Guwahati : Two suspected militants were shot dead by security forces in Assam’s Goalpara district early Monday after they opened fire at a checkpoint, officials said.
The exchange of gunfire took place when two motorcycle borne militants fired at a mobile check post jointly set up by the police and the army at a place called Sign Board in the area, said district Superintendent of Police Luis Aind.
“The police party signalled the two to stop but they fired and tried to escape. However, the two militants were killed as police retaliated,” Aind said and added that two pistols were recovered from the two militants’ possession.
He, however, said: “The two militants are yet to be identified and we are yet to confirm their affiliation to any particular militant outfit.”
