New Delhi : Pivotal in providing traffic information and redressing related complaints, the Delhi Traffic Police’s page on social networking site Facebook Tuesday crossed the one lakh followers mark.
Started in May 2010, the page has become a popular medium for Delhi residents wanting updates on traffic jams, road blocks, processions etc. which affect traffic movement in the city.
More than that, the medium is used by alert citizens for registering complaints against errant drivers or vehicles flouting traffic rules by putting up their photos or videos or non-functional traffic lights and traffic police not doing their duty at certain spots.
“I realise it is a huge responsibility to understand expectations of so many people and I know it is frustrating when things raised by a citizen are not addressed properly,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg posted on Facebook.
“But people must realise as well that there are limitations within which we work. Still we will work to the best of our capabilities. Let people be generous with our limitations,” he added.
According to Garg, around 15 people manage the page round the clock in three shifts of eight hours each.
“In every shift there are two policemen who post the updates on the page as well as acknowledge the complaints in the form of photos and messages,” Garg told IANS.
