Rahul spares none — Mayawati, Mulayam, BJP

Ghaziabad : On the day of the fifth round of polling for a new Uttar Pradesh assembly, Congress star Rahul Gandhi Thursday told thousands not to trust Chief Minister Mayawati or Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, saying neither was worthy of their votes.

The Congress general secretary went hammer and tongs against Mayawati, Mulayam Yadav and also the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), holdign them responsible for the lack of Uttar Pradesh’s development since 1989, the year the state slipped out of Congress hands.

Repeating allegations he has made countless times, Gandhi said at two election rallies that the only way forward for Uttar Pradesh was to have a government of the Congress and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD).

“They come in choppers, fly out in choppers, get the votes and then forget the voters for five years,” Gandhi said of the other parties.

“They have become addicted to fooling voters because they have succeeded in fooling them every five years.”

He accused Mayawati of siphoning several thousand crore of rupees sent by the central government.

“The entire efforts of the central government to assist rural Uttar Pradesh has proved futile because Mayawati’s elephants (her party symbol) had exhausted the entire funds.”

Gandhi accused Mulayam Yadav of doling out false assurances to farmers.

He went on to bring out visible differences between Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring Delhi, and asked the crowds if they could make differences in governance.

When the crowds roared in approval, he said the credit for a better Delhi went to the Congress.
