Guwahati: The Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign (SSSC), a joint initiative of various organisations and movements has been spreading awareness and generating support for Irom Sharmila on humanitarian ground by gathering public support and by continuously engaging in activities. They were up against the state’s negligence towards her non-violent protest.
Now with the objective to strengthen their campaign and to appeal for the Issue of Irom’s, non violent protest; on 29 February 2012, Faisal Khan, Deepak Joshi and Mehndi Hasan will sit on a day long fast at Kasturba Ashram,Uloowadi, Guwahati. . The Ashram has been a symbol of non violence, purity and harmony and by this fast; SSSC aims at making themselves strong in their steps ahead on the path of truth and non violence.
From 1-3 MARCH 2012, SSSC have planned a meeting with Irom Sharmila and members of civil societies of Manipur to discuss on possible alternative ways of struggle and to decide on future course of actions.
Their previous activities ranged from candle vigils at Rajghat, India Gate and many other cities of India to Signature Campaigns at 18 Indian States and in many other countries. They undertook street march on roads to documentary screenings at SAARC University, Delhi University, IITs and in many other colleges. They organised human chain at Marine drive, historical journeys from Srinagar -Imphal and Ahmedabad – Srinagar to express their solidarity to Irom. They met the NHRM chairman and had sent a public appeal to the Prime Minister.
