Targeting of Muslims youths in Bihar a serious problem: Ex-Minister

By TCN News,

Patna: Former Union Minister Mr Nagmani, who was also cabinet minister in Nitish Kumar Government, has expressed serious concern on the recent targeting of educated Muslim youths in Bihar, and said this will make Muslims of the state insecure. In last one month more than half a dozen youths have been arrested in connection with several unsolved terror blasts.

During his personal visit to UAE Mr. Nagmani, who is now a leading Congress leader in Bihar, had a meeting with NRIs from Bihar on various security and development issues in the state. He informed the NRIs of the prevailing security situation in the state which is deteriorating day by day. Especially the recent arrest of educated Muslim youths and continuous harassment of the Muslims of the state by the security agencies under the NDA rule (JDU and BJP combined) is a worrisome trend, he said.

He asserted that Muslims from Bihar are peace loving people and they have never been associated with any subversive activities in the nation. Muslims are striving hard to raise their educational standard and trying their best to contribute in the development of the nation. However, incidents of these kinds will only make them insecure and unless Muslims are made to feel secure in India, there is no way the minorities can prosper and help in the nation building.

Mr. Nagmani was very vocal in his speech and deliberated upon the injustice being met to Muslims across India in various forms. He described the recent targeting of Muslims youths in Bihar as a serious problem which has the potential of making all the minorities live in constant fear. Unfortunately, as he said, some forces in India are hell bent upon destroying the peace and social fabric and therefore, don’t want the country to progress. He also said that if the 15% Muslims are not given equal opportunity, India will never achieve its objective of being a developed nation.

There is no doubt as the acquittal of Muslims in various terror cases such as Jaipur blast, Mecca Masjid blast, Malagoan blasts and many more show that the authorities choose to pick the innocent Muslim youths to save their faces. Unfortunately, the erring officers are not being held accountable for the heinous crime of destroying the lives and career of these youths. This encourages them to continue with their habit of choosing the soft targets which indeed are Muslims in India. There must be a proper mechanism to counter these atrocities of the police and intelligence agencies.

Talking about the poor condition of Muslims in India, Mr. Nagmani said Muslims’ share in government job was close to 39% before Independence. However, this has gone down to below 2%. This shows that Muslims have not been given their due share and they were always at receiving end.

Random picking of innocent Muslims especially youths who are studying and doing their work peacefully should not be allowed at any cost. Mr. Nagmani vowed to support this cause and assured the NRIs from Bihar that he will do everything possible to bring this grave injustice to light. He also vowed to start agitation against the authorities who continue to delve into these practice of arresting the innocents.
