Pak flag hoisting: Karnataka opposition demands ban on Ram Sene

By TCN Staff Reporter,

Bijapur: It was the plot to organise a communal riot but it was foiled with the arrest of Sriram Sene workers. It is believed that, the Sangh organisations of the area were all set for carnage against the minority community, and were prevented only because of the timely act from the Police which arrested the real culprits behind the Pakistan flag hoisting at Tahsildar’s office in Bijapur.

It was on the New Year eve the flag was hoisted at the office in Sindagi and media started spitting venom targeting a section. A few among the Kannada dailies went to the extent of accusing ‘Pakistan agents’ behind the incident. It was since then right wing Hindutva organisations including Bajrang Dal, Sriram Sene and VHP called for a bandh in the region with a motive to raise emotional rage against the Muslims and they attacked shops and vehicles owned by Muslims.

But with the arrest of six Sriram Sene activists from Bangalore, the Sangh had to soon retrieve to shell. College students named Rakesh Sidha Ramayya Madd, Mallana Gawda Vijaya Kumar Patil, Parasu Ram Ashok Vagmor, Rohit Iswar Navi, Sunil Madivvalappa Agasar, Anil Kumar Sriram Solankar were the ones arrested by Bijapur Police Superintendent. On questioning they have admitted that, their plans were to catalyse a riot in order to win greater support for Sriram Sene. They expected that patriotic feelings would soon act in favour of them and against the Muslims, by alienating them as well-wishers of enemy nation.

At the same time the National President of Sriram Sene Pramod Muthalik stated that, those arrested are members of RSS and don’t belong to his group. There were demands from political parties to charge Muthalik as well in the case. He has a previous history of being caught in Tehelka sting operation tapes, for demanding money to organise riots against the minorities [Rent a Riot]. He accused the police of having agendas against Sriram Sene. He said he is in possession of evidences to prove the culprits’ RSS relations and if necessary they will be publicised, he added.

South Kannada Congress district president and Banthwal MLA Ramanath Rai demanded to ban the organisation, based on the anti national act committed. Janata Dal (S) leader HD Kumara Swamy expressed his doubts on the possible involvement of RSS and BJP, in this heinous act. He said that, Sangh is on an attempt to win votes by creating riots in the region.

Police doubts Sangh involvement in similar incidents of defacing a statue of Vivekananda and a Temple in these region recently, as in those cases too Hindutva organisations made attempts to spread hate campaigns against Muslims, without any evidence. It was in 2008 a Pak flag was hoisted here in the Tipu Sultan circle, and with these incidents none can deny a possible Sangh involvement.
