London: A suspected Al Qaeda terrorist, believed to be hiding in Yemen, has been banned from flying into Britain amid fears that he might try to blow up a plane in a suicide bombing during the London Olympics.
Home Secretary Theresa May ordered suspected 20-year-old Sami Mohamed Ali al-Fadli to be barred from all flights to Britain, The Sun reported.
His name has been added to the no-fly list and the list for pre-departure flight checks. His travel documents have been revoked. Fadli’s details have also been put on a UK Border Agency watch list.
At least 150 airlines would be affected by the ban on Fadli, with 90 of them operating from Heathrow airport in London.
Fadli, who once lived in Britain as a refugee, was allowed to remain in the country after he claimed he came from Kuwait. His current whereabouts are uncertain.
“This man is deemed to pose a significant threat. While here he linked up with other extremists. The security services concluded that his presence was not conducive to the public good. A major concern is that an attack could be attempted here or on an aircraft travelling here,” an intelligence official said.
