BSP’s denial of tickets to lawmakers shows guilt: Congress

By IANS,

New Delhi: The Congress Monday said Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati’s denial of poll tickets to nearly half of her party legislators was a “big and important” admission of corruption.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has admitted that more than half of its lawmakers were denied tickets and they were “either corrupt or had not worked in the constituencies and were not fit to be repeated”.

“Nearly 100 (have been) denied tickets on specific ground of not having done their work or having been indicted for corruption and are facing legal proceedings. This is an extraordinarily high percentage,” Singhvi said.

He said the BSP chief had put in position of power people who “did nothing in their areas, who were corrupt and not doing any governance”.

“It is the true face of UP government. It is admitted, factual and documented. No doubt, a fraud had been perpetrated on the people of UP. This is truth about misrule in UP due to which the common man is unhappy,” he said.

Singhvi appealed to the electorate of Uttar Pradesh not to support the BSP in the forthcoming assembly polls as it had committed “such a fraud” and “befooled people”.

Mayawati Sunday released the names of all 403 candidates for the Feb 8 – March 4 assembly elections and regretted selection of “some undesirable people” in the previous polls.

She said such people had been exposed and were denied BSP tickets.
