New Delhi: After a series of hot days, pre-monsoon showers finally arrived Friday with showers in several parts of the capital. The Met department forecast more rain later in the day.
“The skies will mainly remain cloudy with more thundershowers likely in some areas later in the day. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around the 38 degrees Celsius mark,” an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.
Although Delhi received less than 0.1 mm of rainfall early Friday, more rains are expected as the day progresses, the IMD official added.
Monsoon generally reaches Delhi by June 29 every year.
“The pre-monsoon showers have started in Delhi, but actual monsoon rains are expected to begin only by the weekend,” the official said.
While humidity stood at 67 percent at 8.30 a.m. Friday, the minimum temperature settled at 29.1 degrees Celsius, a notch above the average for the season.
Thursday’s maximum temperature was five notches above average at 41.1 degrees Celsius and the minimum was two notches above at 29.5 degrees Celsius.
