IWF distributes Rs. 1.62 lakhs in scholarships to poor students

Aligarh: Scholarships worth Rs. 1.62 lakhs were given to meritorious but financially needy students of Aligarh by India Wisdom Foundation (IWF)..

The scholarships were distributed to the students by Sabiha Seemin Shah, wife of Vice Chancellor Zameeruddin Shah at a function organised at the Ladies Club in AMU campus here Sunday evening.

“You have a very important task at hand. You all have to make your family and your country proud. The only way to do this is by studying hard. Therefore you should make full use of the scholarships provided to you,” said Mrs Shah while inspiring students to excel in their lives.

The scholarships ranging from Rs.5,000 to Rs.10,000 per annum is given to the students depending on their financial needs and performance in schools. These students are identified and selected mainly from government schools in the vicinity of AMU campus.

AMU Alumni Association, Washington DC, and Aligarh Forum have been jointly distributing these scholarships for the past five years under “The Aligarh Project.”

Last year, The Aligarh Project was formally adopted by India Wisdom Foundation (IWF). IWF is a registered NGO formed by eminent Aligarians living in India and abroad. Keeping in mind the ideals of Sir Syed, the Foundation aims at improving the educational and health standards of poor and marginalized section of the society.

Dr. Shahid Jameel, President of the IWF, said: “India Wisdom Foundation plans to start a coaching and guidance centre very soon in Aligarh. This will cater to the poor and needy students. The coaching will be provided to students preparing for banking and other services.”

Last year IWF distributed scholarships worth Rs.1.5 lakh.
