China allocates $189 mn for flood relief

By IANS,

Beijing : China has allocated 1.2 billion yuan ($189 million) for flood relief after over 70 people died in the deluge since past week.

Half of the money will go to Beijing and Tianjin cities, and Hebei province, battered by heavy rains since last Saturday, Xinhua reported.

The other half will be used in southeast China, hit by typhoon Vicente.

The allocation brings this year’s total disaster relief funding to 12 billion yuan, the finance ministry said.

The government Thursday updated the toll from last weekend’s downpour to 77 deaths.

The Met department has forecast more rains in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei over the next three days.
