Stop aid to Myanmar until Rohingya Muslims resettled: Civil society to Indian Govt.

Hyderabad: A group of civil society activists assembled at Mehboob Hussain Jigar hall in the premises of Siasat Urdu daily office on Thursday to condemn the killings of Muslims in Myanmar.

The speakers and attendees of the meeting urged the Indian govt. to put sanctions against Myanmar govt. for the violation of Human rights and Govt. of India should also stop its assistance to the Myanmar govt. as its aid is going to contribute in the genocide of Rohingya Muslims.

Maulana Hamid Mohd. Khan, president of Movement for Peace and Justice, a sister organization of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind said media especially international press is playing biased role by not highlighting the ethnic cleansing of Muslims in Myanmar.

Criticizing international human rights groups for keeping silence on the Myanmar Muslim killings, former Rajya Sabha M.P and C.P.I leader Syed Aziz Pasha said “hundreds have been massacred, millions have been displaced but till now no major international human rights group has even dared to condemn it leave alone protest. Myanmar incident is enough to highlight the double standards of international human rights groups.”

Maulana Syed Tareeq Quadri, former member of A.P minorities commission condemned the decision of Myanmar govt. to cancel the citizenship of Rohingya Muslims. He said “Eight lakh Rohingya Muslims live in Arakan region of the country for nearly a century, they are an ethnic minority in a predominated Buddhist nation, to clear them off completely from Arakan region these recent riots were orchestrated which caused displacement of thousands of Rohingya Muslims.”

Others who spoke in the protest meeting were Prof. Kancha Ilaiah, HOD, social inclusion Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Prof. Vishweshar Rao, HOD, mass communication MANUU, Professor Pinniya, and Jasween Jairath.

Organizer of the protest meeting Editor of Siasat Urdu daily Zahid Ali Khan said they are planning to form a delegation comprising of members of Hyderabad civil society to meet Myanmar Ambassador to register their protest with the country’s military govt. directly. And also will submit a memorandum to governor of A.P, later would meet prime minister and president to seek their intervention for building up pressure on the Myanmar govt. to resettle Rohingya Muslims in their home land.
