Probe into ‘violation’ of court curbs on Uttar Pradesh park

By IANS,

Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh Police Monday sent a team to Rajasthan to verify a contractor’s claim that he supplied stones for a Dalit park in Lucknow despite a Supreme Court stay on work there during the previous Mayawati government’s tenure.

Contractor Durga Prasad’s statement to police here contradicted the affidavit filed by the former Bahujan Samaj Party-led government in the apex court assuring it that no work was on at the site for the park.

Officials told IANS that Lucknow Inspector General of Police Ashutosh Pandey sent a police team to Rajasthan to verify “the movement of trucks” which, according to Prasad, ferried the stones to Manyawar Shri Kanshiram Ji Green (Eco) Garden in Lucknow.

Prasad lodged a first information report (FIR) earlier this month against two officials of private firm BPR Infrastructure Ltd alleging non-payment of dues for red stone supplied by him for the park in October 2009.

He said that he supplied stones worth Rs.17 lakh for the construction.

He also handed over documents to prove the movement of his trucks which ferried the red stone after the apex court imposed a ban Sep 8, 2009 on construction at the site.

Police were also investigating if district officials in the state capital issued orders that none of the trucks would be stopped, sources said.

The movement of over 300 trucks carrying material for “work on the monuments and parks” around the same time was being checked, sources said.

The complainant submitted toll tax receipts and vehicle weight certificates detailing movement of trucks from Rajasthan to Uttar Pradesh in October 2009, they said.
