New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance will meet Sunday morning to decide on its nominee for the July 19 presidential poll, BJP spokesperson Ananth Kumar said Saturday.
“Tomorrow at 11 in the morning, the NDA meeting has been convened at L.K. Advaniji’s house and we will take a final decision on the presidential election,” Ananth Kumar told reporters after the BJP’s core committee meeting here on the issue.
The party is debating whether to support former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam or Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Lok Sabha speaker P.A. Sangma.
According to Ananth Kumar, the BJP’s top leadership, including party president Nitin Gadkari had detailed discussion about the emerging scenario regarding the presidential election.
He said the BJP leaders also called up the chief ministers of the NDA-ruled states and the party’s state leaders to discuss the issue.
“Our leaders, Gadkari-ji, Advani-ji and Sushma (Swaraj)-ji had a telephonic talk with leaders and chief ministers of NDA in this regard,” he said.
