Akhilesh Government: 100 days in power, nothing except promises

By Abdul Hannan Siwani Nadvi,

The government of Samajwadi Party in Utter Pradesh led by its young leader Mr. Akhilesh Yadav completes hundred days in office. Samajwadi party says its government made much progress during these days.

It’s difficult to say what the achievements of the new state government are. Through the eyes of Muslims, state government has disappointed the community that played a key role in the last UP assembly election. Samajwadi Party made many promises to Muslims during the campaigns. Some of them were- the releasing of innocent Muslim youths arrested in false terror charges and working on a strategy to uplift Muslims educational and economic condition in state.

In a meeting with Maulana Arshad Madani in Delhi, few days ago, Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav again made his commitment that his government in UP is working to fulfil its promises. Over the question of arrested innocent Muslim youths he said that the state government was doing its best to get them released.

When we analyse the first hundred days of the SP government, we find that many cases that grabbed the attention of media contrary to the statements frequently made by Samajwadi Party leaders. These hundred days Muslims find nothing except burnt houses, screaming men, women and children and groups of affected people seeking administration’s help to try to build again their shattered future.

People give votes and select new leadership expecting new government’s help in reducing their agony and pain. Public representatives forget them once they win election.

There was huge excitement among various communities in general and Muslim community in particular since Samjwadi Party came in power.

The terror, seen in Kosi Kalan of Mathura, and in a village of Pratapgarh of UP on June23, 2012, is a naked example of state government’s inaction where a particular community suffered physical and material losses.

Unfortunately, hundred days performance of the government cannot grab the attention of Muslims of Uttar Pradesh.

There is no rape of hope from any quarters. Neither the innocent Muslim youths were released nor the state government took the notice of illegal arrests and harassment of Muslim community and, the state administration has also failed to overcome unfolding terror of communal violence in time.

Mr. Mulyam Sing Yadav, who once called Maulana Mulayam for his role in protecting Babri Masjid, demolished by fanatic elements, spends his more time in assuring Muslim leadership rather than asking his party’s government to expedite the issues related to Muslim community.

It seems, however, that the state government has made up its mind of setting security issues of Muslim community aside, fooling them in the pretexts of assurances and promises.
