Baghdad : An American teacher was Thursday shot dead by a student who later shot himself at the American International School in Iraq’s Kurdistan region, Xinhua reported.
“Bayad Talabani, a Kurdish student at an American International School in the city of Sulaimaniyah, shot dead his American teacher before he shot himself,” city mayor Zana Mohammed Salih said.
Talabani was seriously wounded and was taken to a hospital in the city, around 350 km north of Baghdad, he said. The teacher was not identified.
Iraqi security forces have sealed off the site.
The school is one of several international schools that offer “high-quality foreign-style” education in English language in Kurdistan region, the report said.
