Egypt to hold presidential election in May

By IANS,

Cairo: Egypt will undergo presidential election May 23-24, the head of the country’s election commission, Farouk Sultan, has said.

The second round of the election, if required, will be held June 16-17 and the results will be announced June 21, said Sultan, who is also the chairman of the Supreme Constitutional Court.

The registration of the candidates starts March 10, he added.

Egypt’s ex-president Hosni Mubarak stepped down Feb 11, 2011 after two weeks of protests against his 30-year rule. The protests left over 360 people as dead and about 5,500 injured.
