CBI inquiry demanded in Arya orphanage case

By IANS,

New Delhi : Representatives from 26 NGOs and families of victims in the Arya Orphanage case marched to parliament Monday to protest against the continued child abuse in institutions meant for child protection and called for a “zero tolerance policy” against this.

The protesters demanded the investigation of the case be handled by Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI), along with strict action against the management of the orphanage and regular monitoring of such institutions to prevent such cases in future.

The protesters claimed that in light of the case, it was obvious that the child protection mechanisms were “completely absent” in such institutions.

The protest march culminated with submission of a memorandum to union home minister P. Chidambaram and Delhi Lt. Governor Tejendra Khanna.
