British journalists held for spying in Libya

By IANS,

London : A Libyan militia has released a video of two British journalists held on suspicion of spying.

Nicholas Davies-Jones and Gareth Montgomery-Johnson – working for Iran’s English-language Press TV – were detained Feb 22 by the Swehli Brigade, The Sun reported.

The Swehli was among dozens of militias that helped force out longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi last year.

In the video message, the journalists seemed calm and in good shape and said they were being treated well. They also apologised for entering Libya without visas.

Davies-Jones said: “We hope to see our families fairly soon.”

A Swehli spokesman later said the two men had been handed over to the ruling National Transitional Council (NTC).

“They are not our responsibility any more,” the spokesman said.

An NTC spokesman did not confirm the transfer.
