New Delhi: Tight security arrangements are in place here to prevent any trouble during the visit of Salman Rushdie, the controversial author of “The Satanic Verses”, police said Friday.
Rushdie is set to take part in the two-day India Today Conclave starting Friday at a five-star hotel here, barely two months after he had to cancel his visit to the Jaipur Literature Festival due to threats.
“We have deputed proper security to avoid any trouble,” a police official told IANS. He declined to give details.
Rushdie is scheduled to speak at the conclave Friday.
The Man Booker prize winner earlier visited India in 2000 for a Commonwealth writers’ forum, and the Jaipur Literature Festival in 2007.
In Jaipur, several Muslim groups protested his participation at the literary festival, leading to cancellation of his visit.
