Zambia seeks India’s help for Green Revolution

By IANS,

New Delhi : Zambia Monday urged India to provide technical and financial support to help bring in a Green Revolution and ensure food security in the country.

“We can learn a lot from the Indian experience and we hope that some of the aid earmarked for Africa as well as private sector investments and partnership will give the agrarian sector due attention,” said Malozo Sichone, a minister in Zambia’s Muchinga province.

He said Zambia and other African countries needed a Green Revolution to ensure food security and raise the standard of living in the region.

Addressing the 8th India-Africa Project Partnership Conclave here, Sichone said the people in Zambia were already using Indian technologies and were comfortable working with them.

“Zambians are already familiar with Indian technologies in agriculture, pharmaceuticals and telecommunications,” he said.

“With access to appropriate, adaptable and affordable technologies a Green Revolution can be unleashed that will unlock the potential of both our land and people,” Sichone said.
