France observes minute of silence for shooting victims

By IANS,

Paris : All French schools Tuesday observed a minute of silence in memory of three children and a teacher killed outside a Jewish school in the southwestern French city of Toulouse Monday.

Jonathan Sandler, a 30-year-old teacher, his two sons, Gabriel and Arie, and seven-year-old Myriam Monsonego, daughter of the Ozar Hathora school principal, were shot dead by a gunman wearing a helmet Monday morning when they were arriving for school, reported Xinhua.

The assailant fled on a scooter after the shooting.

In Paris, French President Nicolas Sarkozy observed a minute of silence in a secondary school.

He had announced Monday to raise the terrorism alert in the southwestern France to the highest level, and vowed to mobilize “all means necessary” find the gunman, who is also suspected of two other shooting incidents that claimed the lives of three French paratroopers in the nearby region.

Some of the bullets found at the Monday’s shooting site are of the same caliber as of those found at the scenes of last week’s shootings of soldiers.

Sarkozy confirmed that it was the same person with the same weapon who “killed soldiers, children and the teacher”.

But according to French Interior Minister Claude Gueant, police have not yet identified the shooter for Monday’s school attack.
