Hyderabad : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has owned up responsibility for the Congress party’s defeat in the by-elections to seven assembly seats.
The ruling party drew a blank in the by-elections, the results of which were announced Wednesday. The chief minister told reporters that the Congress party failed to take the government programmes to voters.
The chief minister felt that the party would learn new lessons from the defeat. He, however, said the cadre should not lose heart. He denied that there is lack of coordination between the government and the party.
On the Telangana issue, the chief minister said it was for the centre to take a decision.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) won four seats, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and YSR Congress party one each. An independent candidate supported by TRS was also elected.
Congress finished second in four constituencies and third in three others.
Meanwhile, Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu said the party would analyse the results. He said while he accept people’s verdict, the by-elections in Telangana were held in special circumstances. He claimed that TDP has improved its performance in the region.
The former chief minister said he had a limited role on Telangana issue. “Those in power should take a decision on Telangana,” he added.
