Judge ensures cleanup of Pakistan airport

By IANS,

Islamabad : A judge, who was taken aback at the sight of posters and banners of political groups at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport, not only ordered it to be cleaned up, he also ensured its compliance.

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa of Balochistan High Court arrived at the airport Tuesday to board a flight for Quetta.

While walking to the lounge, he told his protocol officer to call the airport management, security officials and the station manager to seek an explanation, sources told Dawn.

The explanation that the posters were put up for PIA workers union election held last week did not cut ice.

The judge ordered its prompt removal and left to board his flight.

The pilot, however, aborted the flight after noticing some technical fault and the plane came back to the bay.

Justice Isa then called for a “compliance certificate” that his order had been carried out.

“We provided him the certificate after removing the banners in a short time. The staff officer of the chief justice inspected the site and verified the same,” airport manager Azhar Faheem Khattak was quoted as saying.
