Ugadi celebrated in Tamil Nadu

Chennai : Andhraites and Kannadigas in Tamil Nadu Friday celebrated the Telugu and Kannada New Year Ugadi with traditional fervour.

People went to temples for the auspicious day in the morning after taking the traditional head bath.

The day starts early with every one in the family taking head bath. The house is decorated with kolam (rangoli) outside the front door. Mango leaf streamers adorn the doors. Gold ornaments are placed before the deity.

“We will visit relatives and friends and greet them as well as share Ugadi delicacies. The blessings of the elderly relatives would also be sought specially today,” A.Viswanath a businessman here told IANS.

“The main dish for today is the Ugadi Pacchidi. It is made with neem flowers, jaggery, mango, green chilli, salt and tamarind juice. The idea is to reflect the six different emotions that humans experience,” Mahalakshmi Ram, a human resource trainer here told IANS.
