General Motors recalls over 6,000 vehicles

By IANS,

Washington : General Motors (GM) is recalling over 6,000 big vans and SUVs following concerns that their steering could fail, Xinhua reported.

The affected vehicles include certain 2012 Chevrolet Express, GMC Savana vans, Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL SUVs.

The steering gear pitman shaft may not have been properly hardened, which could break and cause a loss of steering, reported Chicago Tribune Sunday citing The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as saying.

The problem was discovered during testing by the company that makes the gear shafts.

GM says no crashes or injuries have been reported.

The recall is expected to begin April 4 and GM dealers will inspect the steering gear shaft and replace it if necessary.
