Murder most foul: Timeline of Harpreet Kaur murder case

Chandigarh : The following is the sequence of events in the death of Harpreet Kaur, daughter of Punjab minister Bibi Jagir Kaur.

April 20, 2000: Harpreet Kaur dies mysteriously in Punjab’s Phagwara town

April 21, 2000: Harpreet is cremated hastily without any post-mortem examination

April 27, 2000: Harpreet’s husband, Kamaljit Singh files petition, alleges murder

September, 2000: High court orders CBI probe into the case

October, 2000: CBI registers case and arrests Phagwara-based couple, Dalwinder Kaur Dhesi and Paramjit Singh Raipur, on charges of forcible abortion, conspiring to murder and destruction of evidence

November, 2008: Accused-turned approver Dr. B.S. Sohal dies mysteriously in a road accident at Amritsar

February, 2010: Kamaljit Singh turns hostile but retracts from his statement later

March 17, 2012: CBI special court completes trial in the case.

March 30: Jagir Kaur convicted of conspiracy and sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment. Kaur is acquitted of murder charges and sent to Patiala Central Jail.
