Azamgarh: With the single-point agenda to turn Shibli College into a university, a movement has been launched in Azamgarh. The Azamgarh Education Mission was established on 6th April 2012 and at its first core committee meeting on 5th May 2012, it was decided that the mission for Shibli University will be turned into a mass movement.
The core committee meeting decided to focus on two issues: movement to turn Shibli College into Shibli University and to fill up the vacant 46 posts at the college.
The core committee decided it will use all means of communication and media to take the movement to the masses. They will use newspapers, mobile, internet, public meetings and lectures and seminars.
Mr. Feroz Talat, president, The Azamgarh Education Mission said this is the right time that we work to fulfill the dream of Allama Shibli. Vice president Dr Javed Akhtar said the dream of the university will never come true unless all people of Azamgarh become part of the movement.
Talking to TCN from Lucknow, Mr. Talat said that to strengthen the movement they are establishing pressure group in different cities like Lucknow and Delhi. “We are also meeting Aligarians who are now bureaucrats in UP. We will meet MLAs and MPs of the Azamgarh Division that consists of districts like Azamgarh, Mau and Balia,” said Mr. Talat.
Asked if he will take support of Rashtriya Ulema Council, Mr Talat said: “They have gone astray. They are now just making money, and we want to do something for the community. By taking their support, we do not want to earn disrepute for our movement.”
Shibli College is a minority institution which is run by Azamgarh Muslim Education Society. About the support of the Society to the movement for university, Mr. Talat said some members of the Society are not supporting it as they think they will lose their seat and clout in the college.
He also informed that a delegation of the Mission met Mr. Abu Saleh Ansari, President of the Society on 21st April and presented a memorandum. Mr. Talat expressed concern that the Society postponed its 22nd April meeting which had university issue in the agenda.
