Kolkata: Describing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as a “person of outstanding quality” and very honest, Press Council of India chairman Markandeya Katju Saturday asked the media to see her viewpoint while criticising her.
Speaking to mediapersons after meeting Banerjee at the state secretariat, Katju said she was free from corruption and there was no allegation of scam against her.
“Her integrity is beyond doubt. She comes from a very ordinary family and lives a very simple life,” he said.
“There is no scam against her, at a time when there are allegations of scams against many political leaders in the country. She is free from corruption,” he said.
“It is not fair to criticise her. The media should see her outstanding quality and not defects. Nobody is 100 percent perfect. You must see her viewpoint”, he said.
Katju met Banerjee over issues concerning the state government’s press accreditation policy.
