Bhubaneswar : Large parts of Odisha continued to reel under sweltering heat Sunday although maximum temperature dropped slightly at some places, a Met official said.
The district headquarters town of Sambalpur, about 20km from here, recorded a maximum temperature of 46.3 degrees Celsius, the highest of the day in the state, a senior official of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre told IANS.
The town had recorded a maximum of 46.7 degrees Celsius – the highest for this season – both Friday and Saturday.
Several places in western parts of the state experienced searing heat, recording maximum temperatures between 44 and 46 degrees Celsius. However, the seaside districts remained slightly cool with some places witnessing the temperature in the range of 33 and 35 degrees Celsius.
The state capital Bhubaneswar and its adjoining Cuttack city recorded a high of 40.1 and 39.4 degrees Celsius respectively. The official said the heat wave condition was likely to prevail in some parts during the next two days.
