Sheikh was sent to jail Thursday.

His counsel Rajat Sharma had submitted that his client deserved the relief as he was mentally unstable according to the medical records provided by the family.

Sheikh, 27, hails from Mumbai. He had boarded the IndiGo flight Nov 7 from Mumbai and allegedly turned violent midair, attacking crew members and threatening to take the plane down. Sheikh had refused to listen to the air hostesses and had even tried to storm the cockpit, the police had said.
