Chennai desalination plant to start in December

Chennai: A 100-million litre per day (MLD) desalination plant is expected to be commissioned next month in the Tamil Nadu capital, Va Tech Wabag Ltd, which is building the plant, said Saturday.

“The trial run of the plant has started and the plant is expected to be commissioned in December,” the company said in a statement.

It expects to commence operation and maintenance activities by the fourth quarter of financial year 2013.

The multi-national company bagged the Rs.1,033-crore order for the Nemmeli desalination project from Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (also known as Chennai Metro Water).

Va Tech Wabag Ltd closed the first half of the current fiscal with revenue of around Rs.572 crore and a net profit Rs.19.93 crore as compared to Rs.476 crore and Rs.2.8 crore booked during the corresponding period of previous year.

According to Va Tech Wabag Ltd managing director Rajiv Mittal, the company’s order book position stands at Rs.4,025 crore giving a good visibility for next two years.

During the second quarter of the current fiscal, Rs.260 crore worth of orders were booked and the total orders booked during the current fiscal stands at Rs.860 crore.
