BJP welcomes China’s new leadership

New Delhi : The BJP Thursday welcomed Xi Jinping taking over as the new general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and hoped that the new leadership will work with India on sensitive issues in a mutually acceptable manner.

In a statement, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Tarun Vijay said India had always placed great importance to its relations with China and the party-led National Democratic Alliance had built cooperative relations with the neighbour.

“Now that the mantle of leadership has passed to a younger generation, the BJP will continue to work together for strengthening bilateral ties,” Vijay said.

He said understanding each other’s sensitive issues in a mutually acceptable manner and resolving disagreements through negotiations were the major foreign policy planks of the BJP.

“We hope the new leadership in China will work with India to achieve these goals and fight the menace of terrorism in a decisive way,” Vijay said.

He said visits of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and party’s present president Nitin Gadkari to China had added new dimension to the relations between the two countries.

“The BJP hopes to increase the level of engagement with China, boosting balanced trade, bilateral exchanges and party-to-party contacts, which is crucial for the region and the world,” Vijay added.

China’s vice-president Xi Jinping was Thursday elected as general secretary of the CPC and introduced new leaders who would lead China, one of the world’s strongest economies.
