High court rejects Madani’s bail plea

By IANS,

Bangalore : The Karnataka High Court Thursday rejected the bail application of People’s Democratic Party chief Abdul Naseer Madani in the 2008 serial blasts here.

The plea was rejected on the grounds that the offences allegedly committed by him were of serious nature.

Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das, however, permitted the ailing accused to avail treatment at a hospital of his choice under police escort.

Karnataka Police arrested Madani Aug 17, 2010, in Kerala in connection with the 2008 serial blasts in Bangalore, in which one woman was killed and 20 people were injured.

As the main accused in the blast case, Madani has been remanded in judicial custody since then and lodged in the central prison on the city’s outskirts.

The high court had rejected Madani’s anticipatory bail petition in August 2011.

Though Madani was also an accused in the 1998 Coimbatore serial blasts in which 58 people died, he was acquitted by the trial court subsequently.
