Dhaka : A smuggler of animal parts was Friday arrested in Bangladesh and 40 live turtles and 200 dried turtle shells were seized from him.
Farid Ahmed, 40, was held by forest department officials, and turtles of three species — spotted flat-shell, Assamrup turtle and soft-shell turtle — were found in his possession in Narayanganj, the Daily Star reported.
Bangladesh’s wildlife law strictly prohibits poaching, capturing, trapping and trading of wildlife. Breach of the law carries a penalty of minimum one year in jail or a fine of Taka 50,000.
